In my previous life serving in public education and the clinical therapy setting, my schedule was made for me. I had little autonomy to build my day with true intentionality. Of course, I learned ways to be deliberate within the framework set by my employers.
Like many of you, COVID-19 turned my world upside down. The rigid schedule of a school day no longer dictated my life. My husband and I were both working from home, and my two older sons were attending school virtually. My two preschoolers? Well, we were just hoping they didn’t burn down the house while the rest of us were on Zoom.
As horrible as COVID-19 was and is, it served as a catalyst for me to become more intentional with my resources, particularly my time and energy. I began to institute what I call “The Sunday Reset.” It has been a game changer for me, especially as a business owner.
Prior to my new Sunday reset activity, I sort of floated through the weekend. Run some errands? Sure! Dinner out? Of course! Stay in my pajamas until noon? Why not?! Sunday night would roll around, and I would feel completely unprepared for the week ahead.
My Sunday reset involves reflecting on the previous week. Did I meet my goals? Did I show up as my best self? Did I take care of myself and others? I also look at the week ahead and finalize my calendar. I merge my appointments and my projects’ action steps into one calendar to ensure I make the most of my time.
How about you? What does your reset day look like? What COULD it look like? How could taking just an hour to plan your upcoming week make a difference in reaching your goals?
I completely relate to everything you said! Sunday is a great time to reflect on the past and prepare for the week ahead. Will you be posting anymore blogs?
